  • Lesson 2: This will be an Investigation that relates to the topic of Lesson 1. It will be own choice and displayed in a way that you prefer. For example - PowerPoint, Doc, etc

BLOGGING.

All the blogs and science lessons will be displayed on Mr. Palmer's blog:

Bookmark it!

Expectations:
  • 1 blog must be completed per Hurumanu lesson.
  • A completed blog must have the four headings ( Aim, Method, Findings, Conclusion), correct writing and punctuation under each heading and be published. No post, no points.
  • 2 images of the experiment/investigation on the blog.
Using the Scientific method of investigation:

Aim: What the experiment/investigation is about.
Method: Instructions on how the experiment/investigation is carried out. This includes the equipment.
Findings: What have we learned or found out from our experiment/investigation. This is called Data, Information or Facts. It is displayed in a chart, table or picture.
Conclusion:

2 Hurumanu Science Goals:
finished the blog post early or finished it at home. Used punctuation to your sentences to have good quality.

WATCH THIS VIDEO AND COMPLETE THE INVESTIGATION.

THE BIG PICTURE

  • What animals keep our jackets warm? Sheep, fox, and Polar bear
  • What animal makes our boots waterproof? ducks
  • Where does the water in our rivers come from? The water from the river is not coming from the ocean. The rain makes the river rise.
  • Why do we need healthy rivers? We need a healthy river because it provides clean water.
  • What are some of the good things about mosquitoes? It helps us clean the water and feed the fishes.
  • Why are bees dying? They are dying because of Colony collapse disorder they leave behind the queen when they disappear.
  • What do bugs do to our leaves? They drink the juice from the leaves and leave a tiny hole.
  • How much dung would we be in if there were no dung de-composers? If there were no dung that is decomposers they will need to cover the dung up to 7 feet.
  • Who runs this planet? They are many species on our planet and helps natures.

GROUP ACTIVITY;

  1. Groups of 3 or 4 students.
  2. Need A3 copy paper.

THE ICECAPS HAVE MELTED. MOST OF THE LAND IN THE WORLD HAS BEEN FLOODED AND YOU AND YOUR FRIENDS ARE ON A BOAT IN THE MIDDLE OF KNOW WHERE. YOUR BOAT IS SUDDENLY STRUCK BY A STORM AND YOU BECOME SHIPWRECKED ON A SMALL ISLAND. YOU ARE ONLY ALLOWED TO SELECT 20 ITEMS FOR YOUR GROUP. A SECOND BOAT IS TRAVELLING NEAR YOU BUT WILL NOT BE ABLE TO REACH YOU FOR 1 MONTH SO YOU NEED TO GATHER ENOUGH SUPPLIES TO LAST FOR A MONTH.

In your group you need to:

1. Make a list of the 10 things you are going to collect.
2. Draw a map of the island.
4. Draw and label the activities you will be involved with.
  • Renewable energy sites ( wind, solar, hydro, )
  • Living/shelter
  • Growing food
  • Write 3 sentences about how your group is going to live for the next month.
When you are drawing your map you need to list 4 places you can have renewable energy sites.

Charlesworth Reserve

This week we've been researching about Charlesworth Reserve in CIP. Next week on Wednesday we're going to plant native for in Charlesworth Reserve for 2 dollars. The Al, Wh, and Ts are going with us too. I made a DLO about the Charlesworth Reserve. I didn't go to the Charlesworth Reserve yet but I'm excited next week.

Here's my DLO⤵️.

Fossil fuels

Aim: To look at how fossil fuels are contributing to climate change and how we can prevent this.

Today we've been doing and reaching about the fossil fuels. Fossil fuels are natural gas and it's like crude oil too but it's like big and hard rock.

Definition of Fossil Fuels: a natural fuel such as coal or gas, formed in the geological past from the remains of living organisms.

Scientific Terms for Students coal: a dark-brown to a black solid substance formed naturally from the compaction and hardening of fossilized plants and used as a fuel primarily for electricity generation
    • natural gas: a mixture of hydrocarbon gases that occurs naturally beneath the earth’s surface and is used as a fuel primarily for cooking and heating homes
  • renewable resource: a resource that is never used up (e.g., solar energy)
  • non-renewable resource: a resource that is not replaceable after its use (e.g., coal, gas)

Examples of Fossil Fuels:
  1. Coal
  2.  Natural gas
  3.  Crude oil

Activity:

In groups of 3, you will learn about different fossil fuels and the way they are mined?
Each group will be given a fossil fuel. The recorder will read it to the group. The recorder will write down some of the important points.
Person 1: Recorder: to write down 5 points of interest from the text.
  1. 5 Points:
  2. Positives and negatives of your type of mining.
Person 2: Reporter: to read back to the class their 5 points of interest.
Person 3: Collector: Gathers the required stationary from the teacher.

Mining Fossil Fuels

What Fossil Fuels are mined?
How are they mined?

1. Fossil fuels are mined by the coal and also they can be found in the coal mined too.
2. Fossil used to mine extract solid, as digging coal, by digging, scraping, or otherwise exposing buried resources.
3. Fossil fuels are mined by digging a tunnel or shafts.
4. Fossil fuels can be found under the surface or above the surface.

Where are they mined?

1. United States
2. Russia
3. Iran
4. Canada
5. China
6. Saudi Arabia

    Activity;

On the sheet provided you need to make two drawings of your cookie.
    1. looking down at it.
    2. side on -  of the imaginary habitat that will live on the top of the cookie. ( trees, buses, flax, sea, etc)

    Material:
    1.  Plate
    2.   Cookie
    3.   Paper
    4.  Pen
    5. Toothpick
    Steps:
    1. Get the cookie and the plate.
    2. Get a paper and pen.
    3. Write what type of ecosystem it is, What plants and animals live there, and how to do human use that space writes in the before mining and after mining.
    4.  Take away the black chocolate from the cookie by using a toothpick.
    5. Draw the cookie and the habitat in before mining and draw the after mining cookies and the habitat
Once you have drawn your cookies you must take 2 pictures and upload them to your blog.

Findings: What did you find out as a result of your mining? That the environment will be ended by the mined.

Conclusion: The example of fossil make me more impormation about the fossil fuels. There are so many coal oil and more around the world.

    My Kaitiaki:Tangaroa

This is the game that we make in Digitech this term. We've been learning about Tangaroa and the other Maori gods. We had to be in a group and research about the Tane Mahuta and find facts. After we research we need to pick one god to make our game.  decide to choose Tangaroa the god of the sea. After we choose one god we are now going to do a plan about the game that we are making like Tangaroa. After we make our plan we go to Code.org, Scratch, and Gamefroot to practice our coding before we make a game.

After we practice coding we now make a game that we write in the plan. The game that we make is like fishing and feeding your village. Collect much fish as possible to feed your village each level and it will get harder and harder.

I didn't finish my game because I don't have more time to finish it I will try to finish it in time. Digi tech is fun because you can make an app or a game.

    Things that I could better.

    • No talking to your friends
    • Self-management
    • Time management
