My Investigation

Aim: To look at how I can prevent climate change in the future.

1. Complete the activity 'Ecological Handprint'.

2. Complete the activity 'Carbon Footprint'.

3. Write down your 10 changes to climate change below. Using ideas from the Ecological Handprint and Carbon Footprint list 10 changes that you can make to stop Climate change?

CIP: Tane Mahuta

Today I'm going to tell you about our CIP work near the garden. The CIP will be available every Wednesday. We all need to choose from the list for what we are doing. There are Tane Mahuta and It's cool to be kind. I choose Tane Mahuta than It's to be kind because we need to plant plants that can still survive in winter. Almost half of the year 7&8 choose Tane Mahuta and the others choose It's cool to be kind. In Tane Mahuta we need to choose again from what we are doing so we know what we are doing and there are cleaning the garden and cleaning the outdoor classroom.

Some of my friends choose Tane Mahuta too and choose to clean the outdoor classroom. After we choose for what we're doing we started to clean up the outdoor classroom. There are some people cleaning the garden too. Every Wednesday we made a lot of progress. We've been doing this CIP for 4 days because of every week has one Wednesday and we already have done it for 4 days.

Drama: Emotions

Kumusta guys,
Today I'm going to tell you about emotions that how I feel yesterday and today. There were different kinds of emotion like comfortable have calm and high energy has happy. On Tuesday they had a drama and used emotion but I'm not in there because I went to ESOL so I just watch some of their drama. Examples: Happy to sad, sad to upset, and upset to calm.

Maori: Ko Au

Today I'm going to tell you something about my family names in Maori and tell about New Zealand. Maori is a country that Kiwi and Maori live in two islands. The 2 cardinal directions are North Island in Maori Te Ika-a-Māui and the South Island in Maori Te Waipounamu. New Zealander used English or Maori. The DLO is all about my family names in Maori and there a question too. Sorry about my Taku Whanau because I don't have pictures in my Chromebook I will update it as soon as possible.

How can we prevent climate change through recycling these products?

Plastics: Stop throwing plastics in the recycling bin. Bring your own plastic bags when you're going to the shop.

What is Zero Waste? Zero waste is the most quicker, easiest, and more effective way for our planet to follow.

What can we do on the planet?

What do we need to recycle? we need to recycle plastics, plastic bottle.

What does recycling do? Recycling can be good for our environment and also share some of your stuff that you don't need. 

How much of our rubbish is food scraps? There's more than 30% of our rubbish does have food scraps that are in the USA.

What does soil due to carbon dioxide in the atmosphere? It does three times faster than trees.

What do we need to do? We need to recycle our rubbish to paper to paper, metal to metal and also plastic, glass something like that.

Choose 5 items from the list and investigate them. 
Paper, leaves, Aluminum can, Milk carton, and styrofoam.

You need to answer three questions.

Name: Milk carton

  1. How long do they take to decompose? It will take 5 years to decompose.
  2. What resource/fossil fuel are they made from? The milk carton is made by paperboard and 100% bio-based.
  3. How is this resource recycled? The milk carton is both paper and plastic kind. The milk carton is also good candidates for bin or cart.
  4. How does this object contribute to climate change? It will take 5 years to destroy and it will also stack up.


Name: Paper
  1. How long does this resource take to decompose? 2-4 weeks
  2. What resource/fossil fuel are they made from? The paper is made of leaves.
  3. How does making this object contribute to climate change? It will make less oxygen because it's made by leaves and leaves make oxygen.
  4. How is this resource recycled? Paper will not be recycled because it will automatically destroy.

Name: Aluminum can

  1. How long does this resource take to decompose? 200-400 years.
  2. What resource/fossil fuel are they made from? The aluminum can is made by the metal.
  3. How does making this object contribute to climate change? It will take longer to decompose before you die.
  4. How is this resource recycled? The aluminum can take 5% of the energy to just recycle aluminum can.

Name: Styrofoam
  1. How long does this resource take to decompose? It will never decompose.
  2. What resource/fossil fuel are they made from? The styrofoam is made from the plastic but it has chemicals in it.
  3. How does making this object contribute to climate change? It will stack and stack because it will never decompose.
  4. How is this resource recycled? First, it will go to the machine and shred the materials.

Hurumanu: Renewable Energy

RENEWABLE ENERGY

Aim: To compare the amount of gas that is produced from different types of biomass.

Material:
  1. 3 Bottles
  2. Permanent marker
  3. Disposable gloves
  4. Cup
  5. Freash horse manure
  6.  Mashed banana
  7.  Funnel
  8.  Water
  9. 3 Balloons
  10. Vegetable peelings
Steps:

  1. Get the three bottles and label them.
  1. Manure
  2. Manure and vegetable peelings
  3. Manure and mashed banana
2. Get one cup of manure, manure with vegetable, and manure with mashed banana.
3. Put all the things that you write in the three bottles.
4. Put the balloons on the top of the bottles.

Research the following Biomass fuels. You will need to:

Write a definition of fuel.
Write 8 sentences about fuel. 
  • How is it made?  Most of the Renewable energy comes from the sun or solar energy. Renewable energy can also use for heating, lighting the house, and other buildings. It can also be used by heating the water to hot water.
  • Where is it made? Renewable energy is made of sunlight. Renewable energy heats the generated within the earth.
  • What is it made with? Renewable energy is energy generated from the natural process. There are sunlight, geothermal heat, wind, tides, water, and various form of biomass.
    • What countries use it?  The countries that use Renewable energy are Iceland, Sweden, Costa Rica, China, Nicaragua, United Kingdom, Germany, Uruguay, Denmark, Morocco, United States, and Kenya.
  • What uses will it have in the future? Renewable energy in the future study found that 80 percent of Renewable energy. Renewable energy is available all of the technologies including wind turbines, solar photovoltaics, concentrating solar power, biopower, geothermal, and hydropower.

Biomass Fuel types.

Name: Agricultural crops and wood fuels.
Definition: Agricultural crops are planted that were grown by the man with some purpose. Wood fuels can be particularly it depends on factors such as source, quantity, quality, and application.

Research: The crops have six categories and there are wheat, potatoes something like that. Wood fuels can be used such as firewood, charcoal, chips, sheets, pellets, and sawdust. 



Uses: It can be used as firewood or heat.

Name: Animal waste.
Definition: Animal waste is an organic matter that comes from the grass when eaten.

Research: Animal waste can be also called manure and the waste also include straw, hay, wood shavings, or other sources of organic debris.

Uses: It can be used as an experiment.

Definition: Biogas is the mixture of gases produced the take out by the organic matter and absence to oxygen.

Research: Biogas can be made such as raw materials like agricultural waste, manure, plant material, green waste or food waste something like that.



Uses: It can be also used to make oxygen.

Definition: Biofuel is a type of fuel that through to biological, rather than the geological process.

Research: Biofuel is a fuel that takes living matter.



Uses: It can be used for buildings, fuels, and car for the end-user and also it can be used in different ways.
